By the way the photo that I chose for this page was taken in Joggins, Nova Scotia on our trip through the western maritimes 5 years ago.

We live in a Hamlet of almost 500 people called Exshaw. It's just east of Canmore, Alberta and fortunately for us it's only a 45 minute drive from one of Canada's best and newest Children's Hospitals. I grew up in the Bow Valley, going to high school in Banff, AB. The Bow Valley has such an amazing sense of community and an great healthy lifestyle. There are some excellent doctors, homoeopathic, holistic and traditional so we have many choices in our care for Hayley as well as ourselves.

Our journey with Hayley has only just begun. We are currently waiting to get going with OT, PT etc. and have many first appointments booked with various departments at Children's. Tomorrow is the head shape clinic, then in a couple of weeks it's off to MRI. That is the appointment that I am looking forward to most. We want to get a good look at her sweet little head and see how the corpus collosum looks as well we are looking forward to checking out her joints (hip, shoulders etc) to check for any weaknesses there and seeing if there is any possibility fo her spinal cord being compromised at her tail bone. Our geneticist mentioned that she has seen or heard of this in some patients before and that compromise hampering some of the motor skills, muscle tone etc. I'm not sure this can be corrected, but we will find out.

Thanks for the info about the CBSCN I will see what we have in Alberta in regards to this and will keep you all up to date on any other resources that I discover here in Alberta.

I just finished watching the US presidential inauguration and am feeling quite inspired after Obama's speech, now if only Canada could come up with a politician that created the sort of excitement in politics that Obama has done for the American's. I could care less if he/she is purple, blue, green, white, black or yellow but please let one of our parties come up with someone that is not a crook, liar or thief and that has a fresh outlook on what needs to be done to bring our country into the future with promise and without conflict.

We are just 5 mins outside Fredericton, New Brunswick in New Maryland. It's a fairly quiet bedroom community and is where I grew up, in fact we built our place in my parents backyard.

Alexa is currently being followed by PT, OT, dietician, speech-language pathologist. We are involved with APSEA and have 2 workers following her on the vision and hearing sides of things. We have also just enrolled with Community Based Services for Children with Special Needs (CBSCSN)
(Social Development), thru the provincial government and they help with supplies, equipment and respite and our case worker will also help us figure out what other help there is out there for Lexi. There is also the Federal Disability Tax Credit which, based on the disabilities, provides monthly financial help.

Are there any other programs that you know of in your areas that have offered you guidance and assistance?

Anna, thanks for starting this group--it sure makes it easier for those in one area/country to get resources.
