Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with getting Medicaid to approve medical equipment. We got a prescription from our pediatrician for a bath chair and a tumble form chair for feedings, brought it to the medical equipment supply store, and just found out that Medicaid did not approve the products as they do not feel it is a medical necessity! I don't know where to go from here?!?! Got any advice?
Do you have medicaid? I thought medicaid picked up those things after regular insurance didn't pay. I know our "not-medicaid-but similar-state-plan" paid for those after BCBS wouldn't. Also, we've never been able to just walk into a store. Our PT writes a letter and sends it to my doctor for a script and then she orders all the equipment. Definitely check with the PT.
Yes, we have medicaid. That is Anthony's only insurance. I got the prescription from the doctor, and brought it to a medical supply store, and they ordered it, but Medicaid still denied payment because they say it's not a medical necessity!! I would love to have a conversation with the person who made that decision. It would not be nice!!
elizabeth, medicaid did not approve a feeding chair for lauren either because she had the kidkart and that could be used for feeding as for the bath chair her pt went through national seating and mobility which is a company here that provides a wide variety of equipment, that is where lauren has gotten the kidkart then the wheelchair, the bath chair and currently working on a stander and car seat. instead of trying to get it yourself through a store or supply company have anthony's pt or ot try to obtain the equipment via a company comparable to national seating and mobility, they will need to write a letter of medical necessity in addition to the physicians prescription. all i can say is elaine at national seating is wonderful with working with medicaid to get the necessary equipment for the kids.
