PKS KIDS

A Forum For Those Touched By Pallister-Killian Syndrome

Luke got a Magic Bullet for his birthday. This little machine is awesome! Luke is now eating mostly REAL food. I am still working on the right balance of adding extra liquid to various things, but so far thanks to the Magic Bullet Luke's diet has dramatically improved with so much more variety from jarred baby foods. He even had pizza for the first time!
Thanks Kim and Randy and Christine for recommending it at the Reunion:-)

Lexi will be getting one too! Does anyone have any suggestions of combinations to try?

Last night Jim gave Simon fish, italian dressing, hummus and something else. We just toss any old thing in there. Last week I gave him homemade mac n cheese mixed with broccoli and then I also added some sweet potatos stage 3 to moisten it.

I also mix up pancakes and applesauce.

I feel left out... we don't have Magic Bullets over here, just plain old blenders...

That's really really sad :(

We have tons of "recipes" for pureed food if anyone is interested.
One tip to share quick - we use low sodium chicken stock to get thicker foods to the right consistency in the blender instead of so much baby food. It works great and has some nutritional value.

I would LOVE them! We really need to get Lexi off of the baby food. The "real" foor we have given her, she absolutely loves.

A couple to get going . . . . keep in mind we use a food processor (much bigger than the bullet)

Lunches - these all make 2 to 3 portions for Jake so we are good for 3 days in a row!
Chicken Salad (no mayo)
Large can of white meat chicken (or fresh chicken breast if you have it leftover) - blend first
18 crackers (we use ritz) - blend together with chicken
Add 1 jar of stage 3 pears baby food (or apple sauce)
Add more pears if needed for smoother texture

Peanut Butter & Jelly
2 slices of whole wheat bread - blended first
Add 1 tablespoon of organic peanut butter (smooth) and 1 tablespoon of jelly/jam
Blend and add milk (we use vanilla soy) for the proper texture

Ham & Cheese
2 slices of whole wheat bread - blended first
Add 3 slices of cold cut ham and 1 slice of american cheese and blend with bread
Add 1 jar of stage 3 pears baby food
Add more pears if needed for smoother texture

Dinners - makes multiple portions that we then freeze in small containers with labels for future use
Fish (Talapia) & Cream Spinach
Add 1 cooked/broiled tilapia fillet and blend
Add a cooked (microwave) bag of cream spinach and blend
Add low sodium chicken stock from can/container for proper consistency

Quick Fix
Add any leftover meat (chicken, turkey, steak, pork, etc) and blend FIRST
Add a jar or two of stage 2 or 3 baby food carrots, squash or sweet potato and then blend again with meat
Thats it!

We started doing this for Kelsey about two months ago. We have just a food processor. Right now i buy big cans of fruit and blend it and put in in small freezer containers and good for days. I will try these other simple ones Mike and Nicole have suggested.

I also do mini ravioli.

Yes, thanks for the recommendation! After the reunion we got one too! Not the Magic Bullet, but something similar. It's great that now Anthony is eating more freshly prepared foods instead of the jarred baby food with all the preservatives! I buy fresh fruits and vegetables and cook them down and then blend them up for him. He has had a few of our meals, but I have to be careful that he doesn't get too much salt or spicy foods that we usually eat. I use canned pet milk to get it the right consistency. (Anthony's favorite is apples with butter, sugar, and cinnamon, then use the milk when I blend it; we do the same with sweet potatoes.)
